Polymer Market Update: Mixed Trends Across Key Grades
The polymer market witnessed mixed price movements this week, reflecting both regional demand patterns and global crude-linked fluctuations. PP Raffia closed at ₹87.50, marking a 1.13% weekly drop and a 7.89% yearly decline. The grade has been under pressure due to subdued buying, with prices hovering close to their yearly low of ₹87.50. LLDPE showed strength, ending at ₹90.50 with a 1.69% weekly gain and a 3.43% annual rise, supported by healthy demand in film-grade applications. HDPE BM prices firmed up slightly to ₹90.00, registering a 1.69% weekly gain, though the grade remains 2.17% lower year-on-year, highlighting volatility in packaging demand. LDPE held steady at ₹110.50, with no weekly change but showing a 6.76% annual rise. Strong consumption in extrusion and coating sectors has kept this grade resilient. PVC stood out as the top gainer, holding at ₹73.50 after a sharp 8.09% monthly rise and a 10.53% quarterly jump, buoyed by robust demand in construction and pipe sectors. Overall, the market sentiment remains cautious. While select grades like LLDPE and PVC are seeing demand-driven strength, PP Raffia continues to struggle, reflecting weakness in woven sack demand.Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) has revised polymer prices effective September 2025. LDPE was reduced by ₹2000/MT, while LLDPE and HDPE were rolled over. PET resin rose by ₹4000/MT, PVC by ₹1500/MT, and PP saw multiple cuts – ₹1000/MT on September 2, followed by ₹4000/MT on September 5, with price protection withdrawn. RIL also announced a new PE incentive scheme, offering slab-based benefits of ₹1250–3000/MT linked to FY26 Annual Purchase Ratios. Meanwhile, the Indian rupee hit fresh lows, closing at ₹88.18 per US dollar on September 5, down over 5% year-to-date amid foreign fund outflows and U.S. tariff concerns. Despite RBI interventions, the currency remains one of Asia’s weakest in 2025. Separately, the GST Council eased compliance norms by removing the need to link credit notes with specific invoices, simplifying reconciliation for sectors like polymers and providing long-awaited relief to businesses.Disclaimer: PolyMart does not offer guarantees regarding the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of the information provided on its platform.
