Polymer Market Update – 03 August 2025

Polymer August 4, 2025

India’s polymer market entered August with notable pricing moves by leading producers and varied grade-level trends. Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), India’s petrochemical giant, has launched an Early Bird Scheme offering an incentive of ₹2,500/MT on domestic polypropylene (PP) purchases from August 1 to August 15, 2025, aimed at reviving demand. Effective 1st August, RIL, IOC, and Opal slashed PP prices by ₹1,500/MT, while deemed export rates dropped by ₹1,000/MT. Notably, price protection was withdrawn. Meanwhile, PET prices surged ₹3,000/MT across RIL and Chiripal Poly Films, indicating strong bottle-grade demand. From the trading desk, PP Raffia remained flat at ₹90.60/kg, but monthly and yearly trends show declines of -3.82% and -6.45% respectively. Buyers could now benefit from the double dip in pricing and incentive push. LLDPE and HDPE BM held steady at ₹92.85/kg and ₹90.75/kg respectively, continuing their quarterly gains but showing marginal volatility year-on-year. LDPE slipped to ₹111.35/kg, down 0.22% weekly, despite a solid 5.95% yearly rise. PVC outperformed all grades, jumping 1.88% weekly to ₹67.85/kg, buoyed by market restocking and nearing monsoon project cycles. Its 5.93% quarterly gain signals renewed demand even as the grade is still down -9.77% year-on-year. Market sentiment remains cautiously optimistic, with incentives and price cuts in PP expected to trigger short-term buying. However, PET’s sharp hike could pressure downstream converters, while PVC may continue to find support in infrastructure-linked sectors.
