Rupee sinks to new low, marking steepest fall since May
The Indian rupee slumped to a record low of ₹89.64 per US dollar on November 21, 2025, marking its steepest single-day decline since May. The sharp fall reflects mounting pressure on the currency amid foreign fund outflows, a strong US dollar, and concerns surrounding India’s widening trade deficit. According to the latest data, the rupee slipped 1.08% on a weekly basis, falling from ₹88.68 on November 14. On a monthly scale, it weakened by 2.01% from ₹87.87 recorded on October 21, while the quarterly loss stood at 2.69%, compared to ₹87.29 on August 21. Year-on-year, the rupee has depreciated 6.10%, down from ₹84.49 on November 21, 2024. Over the past year, the rupee’s year-high was recorded at ₹84.26 on November 25, 2024, while the current level of ₹89.64 marks its year-low. The breach of this psychological barrier has raised concerns among traders and policymakers, with analysts noting that the Reserve Bank of India has shown limited intervention so far.Disclaimer: PolyMart does not offer guarantees regarding the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of the information provided on its platform.
