The commodity and currency markets witnessed mixed movements this week, reflecting ongoing volatility across segments. Crude oil prices closed at 62.39, recording a weekly fall of 4.68% and extending monthly and quarterly declines of 6.74% and 9.85%, respectively. On a yearly basis, crude has dropped 19.46% from 77.46, pressured by soft global demand and oversupply concerns. The commodity remains 23.94% below its yearly high of 82.03 from January but 5.84% above the yearly low of 58.95 hit in May. The USD-INR pair stayed largely stable, closing at 88.78, down 0.06% from the previous week. On a monthly and quarterly scale, it weakened by 0.58% and 3.22%, respectively. Compared to last year’s 84.04, the rupee has depreciated 5.64%, hovering close to its yearly low of 88.86 recorded on 9 October 2025, just 0.09% stronger. Natural gas prices faced heavy pressure, closing at 3.01, marking a weekly drop of 14.25%. Despite that, it gained 1.01% monthly, though down 13.01% over the quarter. Year-on-year, prices remain 20.88% higher, supported by demand recovery. The commodity trades 30.87% above its yearly low of 2.30 from October 2024 but 32.96% below its yearly high of 4.49 seen in March.
