The commodity and currency markets displayed mixed trends this week. Crude oil prices continued their downward slide, closing at 61.29, down 2.30% for the week. The commodity has now fallen 9.80% monthly and 11.84% quarterly, reflecting persistent weakness in global demand. On a yearly basis, crude is down 17.15%, trading 25.28% below its yearly high of 82.03 seen in January but remains 3.97% above the yearly low of 58.95 recorded in May. The rupee saw slight strength this week, closing at 88.00, marking a weekly gain of 0.85%. However, it slipped 0.30% monthly and 2.29% over the quarter. Compared to 84.03 a year ago, it has depreciated 4.72%, though currently sits 0.97% stronger than the yearly low of 88.86 touched earlier this month. Natural gas prices softened, ending the week at 3.00, down 3.23%. The commodity also fell 2.60% monthly and 15.25% quarterly, though it remains 6.01% higher year-on-year. Natural gas stands 30.43% above its yearly low of 2.30 from October last year but 33.18% below the yearly high of 4.49 recorded in March.
