Commodity and Currency Market Update – August 1, 2025

₹ - $ August 2, 2025

Crude Oil:Crude prices posted modest gains this week, closing at $69.67 on August 1, 2025, up 1.80% from last week’s close of $68.44. On a monthly basis, crude rose 3.81%, while the quarterly performance reflects a stronger 12.14% increase. However, the commodity remains down 12.39% year-on-year, highlighting lingering weakness since its 52-week high of $82.30 recorded on August 12, 2024. The current level remains well above the yearly low of $58.95 seen on May 4, 2025.USD/INR:The Indian Rupee weakened marginally, with USD/INR closing at 87.24, a 0.86% gain for the US dollar this week. The currency pair also advanced 1.88% over the month and 3.13% on a quarterly basis. Over the past year, USD/INR is up 4.22%, indicating steady dollar strength. The 52-week low of ₹83.48 was seen on September 22, 2024, while the high of ₹87.69 was touched recently on July 30, 2025.Natural Gas:Natural gas prices edged lower to $3.08, down 0.96% weekly, marking a sharp 9.68% drop over the month and 10.20% over the quarter. Despite this short-term correction, the commodity has surged 57.14% year-on-year, recovering strongly from a yearly low of $1.93 on August 28, 2024. However, it remains significantly below the 52-week high of $4.49 registered on March 10, 2025.Conclusion:The energy market shows a mixed trend: while crude prices are stabilizing after recent losses, natural gas is undergoing a short-term pullback despite strong yearly gains. Meanwhile, the Indian Rupee continues to depreciate against the US Dollar, with USD/INR trading near record highs. These movements signal ongoing global market recalibrations amid macroeconomic and geopolitical shifts.Disclaimer: PolyMart does not offer guarantees regarding the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of the information provided on its platform.
