GAIL Revives Mangalore PTA Plant, Strengthens Petrochemical Growth Strategy

Polymer July 15, 2025

GAIL (India) Limited is accelerating its petrochemical expansion with the revival of its subsidiary, GAIL Mangalore Petrochemicals Limited (GMPL), and a strategic investment roadmap under Strategy 2030. The 1.25 MTPA PTA plant at Mangalore SEZ, acquired through the NCLT process, is being revived after seven years of inactivity. A capital infusion of ₹596.91 crore, including ₹394.25 crore in equity, has been made by GAIL to support the turnaround. According to Ayush Gupta, Director (HR), GAIL and Chairman, GMPL, pre-commissioning activities are progressing steadily, with plant commissioning expected by December 2025 or early January 2026. The company is working with MRPL for paraxylene supply and simultaneously developing port-based infrastructure for imports. An Expression of Interest (EOI) will soon be issued to onboard additional suppliers. GAIL’s marketing division is driving early outreach efforts and finalizing warehousing and sales channels. The project aligns with GAIL’s broader plan to invest ₹30,000 crore in petrochemicals, pipelines, LNG, and renewables over the next three years. This effort, combined with newly commissioned PDH-PP and IPA units, raises GAIL’s annual petrochemical capacity to 3 MTPA, reinforcing its leadership in the sector.Disclaimer: PolyMart does not offer guarantees regarding the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of the information provided on its platform.
