Rupee falls 52 paise reducing to 82.04 against the USD.
Date – 31/01/2023 On the Tuesday of intra-day trade, the Indian Rupee experienced a depreciation of 52 paise, bringing its value to 82.04 in comparison to the United States Dollar. This depreciation was a result of the recent publication of the Economic Survey 2022-23, which suggested that the domestic currency may continue to experience pressure due to a leveling off of exports and the concomitant amplification of the current account deficit. In the preceding session on Monday, the Indian Rupee concluded the day at a value of 81.52 in relation to the United States Dollar. As indicated by the survey, despite a decline in commodity prices from their record highs, they persistently remain at levels that surpass those present prior to the outbreak of conflict (in reference to the Russia-Ukraine war). The aforementioned key document, released a day prior to the presentation of the 2023-24 Union Budget, emphasized that the domestic currency may face pressure towards depreciation due to a potential worsening of the current account deficit. This potential worsening is contingent upon a plateauing of export growth as a result of waning global demand. The document states that these circumstances may be exacerbated by the aforementioned factors. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets on Monday as they offloaded shares worth Rs 6,792.80 crore, according to exchange data.
